Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, Acting Chief Justice (CJ) of the Republic of Ghana, has officially notified the Judicial Service of his absence from duty for a 10-day period later this month.

In a statement dated 13th August 2025 with reference number AOCJ/CIRCULAR/2025, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie announced that he will be away from the jurisdiction from Monday, 18th August to Thursday, 28th August 2025.

During his absence, His Lordship Justice Gabriel Pwamang, the most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, has been appointed to act in his stead.

The notice titled “Absence from Duty” has been circulated to all Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court, as well as all Heads of Divisions and Units. Copies were also sent to members of the Judicial Council, members of the General Legal Council, and the Acting Judicial Secretary.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, a senior Supreme Court judge, is acting as Chief Justice following the retirement of Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, while the nation awaits the appointment and vetting of a substantive Chief Justice.

His temporary hand-over to Justice Pwamang ensures continuity in the administration of justice and the work of the Judiciary during his brief absence.
