“African Continental Free Trade Area is a game-changer” – Ministry of Trade

The Director of Multilateral and Regional Trade at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Anthony Nyame-Baafi, has said the African Continental Free Trade Area, AFCFTA is a game changer as it will help open up the continent to more opportunities.

He said it will also ensure the creation of more jobs and help integrate the economy.

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme Talking Point, Mr. Nyame- Baafi, said the free trade area, will help in the dismantling of trade tariffs.

According to him, with the Secretariat in Ghana, there will be monitoring and evaluation to tackle concerns that may come up.

Director of Communication and External Relations, African Centre for Economic Transformation, ACET, Dr. Dede Amanor-Wilks, said for AFCFTA, to be successful, leaders on the continent must work together and remove all regional blocks. There must also be research and sensitisation to allay the fears of people on the continent about AFCFTA.

Director of Projects at the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, Alexander Dadzawa, said it is important to learn from the mistakes of BREXIT and other continents as this will help AFCFTA to carve out the best frame work that will benefit the continent.
