The Agricultural Department of Atiwa East District Assembly in collaboration with GIZ, a German development Agency, have trained over 20 agro input dealers at Anyinam and its environs on effective handling and application of agriculture inputs.
The workshop was to enlighten selected agro-input dealers on precautionary measures in handling any agro- chemical products under the Planting for Food and Jobs’ (PFJ) and the Planting for Export and Rural Development’ (PERD) programmes.
Speaking at the workshop, Mr David Darko, a GIZ staff and the facilitator for the training advised the participants to properly wash their hands with soap and water after handling agro -chemical products so that they do not expose themselves to poisonous substances in the agro-chemicals.
He said inhaling of spillage of agro-chemicals may result in injury and respiratory diseases.
Mr Darko advised the participants to ensure that their agro- chemicals were stored in spacious rooms to enhance good ventilation and ensure that the agro-chemicals did not affect their health.
He trained participants in the use of nose guards, protective clothes and wellington boots.
Mr Darko advised the participants to carry out germination test of seeds supplied to them before selling to customers to enable them to stay in business.
Mr Samuel Ofosu, the District Agriculture Director tasked the participants to help educate their customers on the hazards associated with excessive usage of agro- chemicals on farm produce and its implications.
He entreated them to put the lessons they have learnt at the workshop into practice so that they could improve on their businesses.
