Yendi, the traditional seat of the Dagbon State (Namship), is set for the historic coronation of the new Yaa-Naa, Abubakari Mahama ll, as the Overlord of the Dagbon traditional area.
This follows the successful completion of the traditional processes after his selection on Friday, January 18, 2019, by the kingmakers.

The last time such a spectacle was witnessed was in mid-1974 when the late Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II was enskined in Yendi.

Dagbon: Yoo Naa Abukari Mahama II selected as new Yaa Naa

The Savelugu Naa, Abubakari Mahama ll, was among four persons whose names came up as possible successors of the late Ya-Naa whose funerals have all been performed.

His nomination is in line with the customs and traditions in respect of succession to the Kingship of Dagbon.

The coronation of the new Yaa-Naa is expected to attract traditional rulers, religious groups, civil society organizations, representatives of political parties and social groups, as well as thousands of Dagbon residents.

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah speaking to Radio Ghana, on Thursday night said government is committed to helping Dagbon shine again.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said Cabinet has approved a thirty million dollar water project for Yendi which  is one of the measures put in place to extend development projects to Dagbon.

He said government is optimistic that the peace that has been restored in Dagbon will continue.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah then expressed gratitude to the people of Dagbon for showing maturity in bringing peace and harmony to the area.

The Committee of Eminent Chiefs, on November 16, 2018, made a declaration to bring finality to the over a decade-old Dagbon conflict between the Abudus and the Andanis Royal families when it presented a document on the road map to peace in the troubled kingdom to President Akufo -Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The committee was set up by former President John Kufuor in 2002 to find a lasting solution to the protracted Dagbon chieftaincy dispute after the killing of Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II in Yendi in March 2002.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo arrived in Tamale yesterday ahead of the enskinment of new Ya-Naa in Dagbon.
