The Contractor, Resources Access Limited has begun works on Okaikoi North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region Inner Roads today.

The fully-funded 23. 5 Kilometers Government of Ghana project, to the tune of over Forty Million Cedis (GHS40,000,000.00), started on 27th January 2020 and will cover from Lapaz Nii Boi Junction on N1 Highways toward Fishpond. The project is expected to be completed in 18 months.

The work will include asphalting, and re-building some major town roads, either the entrance or the exit to The Motorway extension known as the N1 Highway, including, Nii Boi Town, Fishpond, Achimota, Kisseiman, Abofun, and others.

The project manager, Daazy Augustine, in an interview with gbcghanaonline.com explained that the major roads within the Municipality will go through “Asphalt overlay but deteriorating surfaces will see reconstruction first”. “We are going to do overlay and some repairs – we will cut and we will put crush rocks at where the road is so much deteriorated,” he added.

Mr. Daazy Augustine assured that the work will be completed on time.

At the groundbreaking ceremony to commence work, the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for the area, Fuseini Issah, was grateful to the President, the Vice President and the Minister of Roads and Highway for helping his constituency.

He said, it is regrettable fact that their inner roads are left to deteriorate to unacceptable state but “thank God, his excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has come to do it and he has declared this year, the year of roads and, we are beneficiaries”.

The MP, however, appealed to the residents to cooperate with the contractor and give way for the project to finish as scheduled.

On Friday, December 13, 2019, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo tagged the year 2020 as the “Year of Roads” as captured in his 2020 budget statement presented to Parliament by the Finance minister.

According to him, his government would embark on an aggressive road development across Ghana next year (2020), saying “Next year is the year we will adapt as the year of roads”.

According to the President, “roads are critical in the development of any nation and that the development of the much-touted roads under the previous administration was untrue.”
