The Paramount Chief of the Atebubu Traditional Area, Yeboah Asiamah, has paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, at The Square to discuss plans for the establishment of a military barracks in Atebubu.

The visit formed part of efforts by the traditional ruler to follow up on developments regarding the proposed project and to reaffirm his support for the initiative.

During the meeting, Ohempon Dr. Asiamah disclosed that the Southern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces had earlier conducted feasibility studies in the area. He indicated that he had since released about 250 acres of land to facilitate the construction of the barracks, stressing that the land remains available and suitable for the project.

The Paramount Chief also proposed additional investment opportunities in the area, including poultry farming, citing the growing demand for chicken and eggs in Atebubu and its adjoining communities.

Responding, Hon. Brogya Genfi reiterated government’s commitment to expanding military infrastructure nationwide. He stated that plans were underway to establish barracks in all regions, with some projects already commenced.

He further noted that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, John Dramani Mahama, had directed that the new regional barracks projects should include airstrips, adding that Atebubu had been captured under the initiative.

The Deputy Minister expressed appreciation to the Paramount Chief for the land allocation and assured him of a visit to the Atebubu Traditional Area in March, where the necessary traditional rites would be performed to pave the way for the commencement of the project.
