Political party leaders and their supporters have been charged to desist from hurling insults, provocative and defamatory statements against opponents. This came to light at the 25th Anniversary of the Our Lady Queen of Africa Parish of the Catholic Church in Bolgatanga, capital of the Upper East Region.

Avoiding such political tensions will ensure a violence-free atmosphere in the run up to the General Election.

Speakers at the event, urged politicians to avoid bribery and corruption, unhealthy rivalry and culture of insults, in this year’s Elections.

The Our Lady of Queen of Africa Parish at Bolgatanga, established in May, 1995 with about 20 members, can now boast of more than 800 members.

The week-long celebration was climaxed with a colorful celebration including songs ministration by Choristers from other Parishes in the region. A founding member of the Church, Philip Azumah, gave a brief history of the church

The Parish Priest, Rev. Father Lawrence Azure, called for unity among Parishioners and appealed to them to renew their Spirit of evangelism. This, he noted, will enable them to win more souls for Christ.

He charged politicians to be mindful of their utterances in this year’s electioneering and cautioned the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for their selfish interest.

The celebration was dubbed: 25 Years of the Lord’s Wonderful works; OLA Youth Our Future”.
