The District Chief Executive for Bawku West in the Upper East Region, Victoria Ayamba, has commissioned a three (3) unit classroom block each for Gozensi Junior High School and Harriya Primary school in the district.

Commissioning the project, the DCE said the project is in line with the government’s target of phasing out all schools under trees in the area.

She said the ultimate goal of constructing the school was to improve on the quality of education and make it accessible to every child of school going age within the district.

The DCE appealed to the people of Gozensi and Harriya to support the head teacher and staff of the school to take good care of the facility and also endeavour to send their children to school for them to be educated.

Mrs. Ayamba hinted that the MP is putting innovative measures in place to provide the two communities with portable drinking water and toilet facilities.

The DCE commended the communal spirit of the people and urged them to help initiate more development projects to improve their living standards.

She assured the people of government’s commitment to the provision of their basic needs and advised them to exercise restraint to allow government to equitably distribute the national cake according to each community’s needs.

Presenting the keys to the GES director representative at Harriya Primary School, the DCE said her outfit together with MP for the area will construct the road leading to the Harriya and Gozensi communities to ease the movements of the people in the area.

The head teachers of both schools admonished the Hon DCE and MP for the initiative.

The DCE after the commissioning of the two projects said with the number of projects completed so far and those yet to be completed in the district, the development of the district was on track and urged all to support government to deliver.

According to the Assembly Member for the Gozensi electoral area, Afuugu Sulley Abubakari, the school block will relieve the pupils of the burden of walking over five kilometers daily to the nearest school to have access to formal education.

He described the move as historic because the area has not benefited from successive governments in the area of educational infrastructure.

He commended the government and the District Assembly for the gesture.
