Head coach of newly-crowned premier league champions, Medeama Sporting Club, Augustine Evans Adotey has described their premier league success as a mission fulfilled.

The Mauve and Yellow annexed their first premier league title on Sunday after defeating Tamale City 3-0 at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa.

Jonathan Sowah grabbed a brace in the second half to seal the win after Joshua Agyemang broke the deadlock.

“The mission was to help Meadeam to win the league. Lo and behold, the mission has now been fulfilled. That’s why you can see I’m highly excited”, said Coach Adotey after the victory which ended a 46- year premier league trophy drought for a team from the Western Region.

Medeama had to fire two coaches; former Black Stars assistant coach, David Duncan and Umar Rabi within the year due to poor run of results.

Adotey replaced Umar Rabi who served as assistant coach for David Duncan. The former Black Stars assistant trainer fell out of favour with the management of the Tarkwa-based side following the team’s abysmal results recorded under his tenure. However, Evans Adotey instilled a winning spirit in the team when he took over in March, guiding Medeama to topple Aduana stars who had been league leaders for several weeks.

Evans Adotey also commended his two predecessors. “I came in the halfway so it doesn’t mean I just came and won the cup.

Nobody should blame David Duncan, Umar [Rabbi], they did a yeoman’s job, they started,” Adotey told StarTimes after annexing the title. He continued, “They gathered some points and I also continued until this final day. So the congratulation is not meant for me alone, it is collective congratulations.”

Medeama are now the third club from the Western Region to annex the premier league title after Sekondi Eleven Wise in 1960 and Sekondi Hasaacas in 1977.
