Black Stars begin first training session with 21 players in camp ahead of Austria, Germany friendly

Twenty-one Black Stars players trained at Vienna Football Campus on Monday,March 23, 2026 launching preparations for Friday’s international friendly against Austria at Ernst Happel Stadion.

The squad officially opened camp on Sunday ahead of matches against Austria on March 27 and Germany three days later, all part of their 2026 World Cup buildup.

Monday’s one-hour session focused on recovery for players coming off club games, while others honed skills in tactical and shooting drills.

Goalkeepers Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Benjamin Asare, and Joseph Anang joined defenders Patrick Pfeiffer, Derrick Luckassen, Derrick Kohn, Jerome Opoku, Caleb Yirenkyi, Kojo Oppong Pepprah, Jonas Adjetey, Marvin Senaya, and Gideon Mensah on the pitch.

Midfielders and forwards rounded out the group, including Elisha Owusu, Ibrahim Sulemana, Kwasi Sibo, Jordan Ayew, Prince Kwabena Adu, Christopher Bonsu Baah, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Antoine Semenyo, Kamal Deen Sulemana, and Daniel Agyei. Deputy captain Thomas Partey has arrived in Vienna, lifting the camp total to 22 players.

Alexander Djiku and Kojo Oppong Pepprah are expected later today, with training resuming to sharpen tactics for the 17:00 GMT kickoff. These friendlies tune Ghana’s squad for a tough World Cup group with Panama, Croatia, and England.
