Bono region: TEWU calls on RCC intensify checks at entry points

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) has called on the Bono Regional Minister, Evelyn Kumi-Richardson, to ensure intensification of checks at entry points into the Region and the various checkpoints within it to stop the further spread of Covid-19 in Ghana.

Speaking to the GBC in an interview in Sunyani, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Industrial Relations Officer (IRO) of TEWU, Mr. Mathew Abeaba Abereniya, further said such a move will secure not only the region, but the country and its citizens from any further spread of the virus.

The call by the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Industrial Relations Officer (IRO) of TEWU, Mr. Mathew Abeaba Abereniya, comes in the wake of the Bono region recording its first of covid-19 in Sampa in the Jaman North District of the region. He said the TEWU is doing a lot as regards to the fight against covid-19 in the country.

He said the union together with management has agreed to a shift system at the workplace and members are also adhering to the safety protocols of the covid-19.

The Regional IRO said has paid a working visit to educational institutions in the Sunyani Municipality to assess their preparedness against the spread of the COVID-19 in the various campuses and upon his assessment indicates that members are adhering to the safety protocols of the Covid-19.

Mr. Abeaba Abereniya indicated, “covid-19 has affected the operations of TEWU and is delaying the trashing out of issues with the government.”

He stressed that, immediately after the fight against covid-19, TEWU would push for their demands. Mr. Mathew Abeaba Abereniya commended the government for its efforts in the fight against covid-19. He called on the government and the Bono Regional Minister to intensify education and checks within the borders of the Bono region and the country to prevent the entry of citizens of the neighboring countries.

He also called on members of TEWU to adhere to the safety protocols of covid-19 and also stay home if they had nothing doing out to prevent the spread of the virus.
