One major issue that continues to be the concern of many Ghanaians following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic is the country’s porous entry points and inadequate staff to man them, and also enforce the COVID-19 prevention measures rolled out by government.

Ghana recorded four more cases of the deadly coronavirus bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to six.

GBC’s Upper East regional correspondent visited the Mishiga checkpoint and reports that authorities at the port health office have abandoned their post.

In an interview on GBC’s current affairs programme on Monday, March 16, Samuel Ayammah, disclosed: “I arrived at the Mishiga checkpoint at 8 a.m. and from 8 a.m. till 10 a.m., there wasn’t anybody there.”

According to him, all immigrants from Togo and Burkina Faso enter freely into the country without going through any checks.

“I was at the right place because I’ve been here for the past seven years and I’m from the region and also from the Bawku area so I know the place very well.”

“When I got there, they told me the official was somewhere else. We have 6 approved routes in the Upper East region so I was told the official was going to the Mognori border instead of coming to the Mishiga checkpoint. And her reasons are that, they don’t have enough staff.”
