Britain’s Finance Minister, Philip Hammond is in search for a new governor for the Bank of England.
This, he said, is to help steer the world’s fifth-biggest economy, and its global financial center, due to recent upheaval of Brexit. Briefing Britain’s Parliamentary Committee today,Philip Hammond said the UK will continue to play an important role in the EU even as she leaves the Union.
The current Governor of the bank, Mark Carney, a Canadian, has twice extended his term as Brexit approaches. But he has however ruled out a further delay even though Britain’s departure from the European Union hangs in the air.
Carney, the first foreign Governor of the BoE’s three-century history, took up his role on July 1, 2013, and will step down in January 31 next year.
