Britain's Prince Charles charges global community to address climate issues

The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles has challenged members of the Commonwealth and the world at large to come together to address climate issues as the phenomenon poses a threat to human race especially future generations.

Speaking at a Public lecture on the theme:, “Towards a Common Future”, Prince Charles stressed that Climate change should be a priority and concern for all especially in the wake of the horrifying hurricanes being experienced around the globe.

He also announced that Ghana has been selected to be the first African country to benefit from the Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation.

Research on future scenarios predict climate change will have a dramatic effect on natural environments, plants and animals.

The impacts will have knock-on effects for many communities and sectors that depend on natural resources, including agriculture, fisheries, energy, tourism and water.

The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles said the effects of climate change is being felt everyday by people across the globe with the increasing erratic weather patterns which poses a threat to food security.

He was particularly worried about the disposal of plastic waste which threatens aquatic life. He said the time has come for members of the Commonwealth to share ideas and find rapid solutions to end this worrying trend.

Prince Charles commended Ghana for her numerous contributions to the Commonwealth.

He announced that Ghana has been selected to become the first African country to benefit from the Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation.

Touching on the cordial relationship between Ghana and the UK, Prince Charles said it is imperative that painful atrocities from the slave trade era are not repeated calling for a halt to human trafficking.

Prince Charles used the occasion to eulogise the late former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan stressing that he has left an indelible mark in the lives of many.
