The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability, (ASEPA) has described as nuisance tax, the five percent tax on the revenue of Banks as proposed in the 2021 Budget.
Executive Director of ASEPA, Mensah Thompson said records show that following the banking sector cleanup, a lot of people are keeping their money as they have lost faith in the banks.
The situation has affected operations of the banks. Therefore, taxing the banks will further cripple them.
He called on Government to rather put in the needed structures to tax the informal sector which forms a chunk of the workforce.
