Chief Executive Officer of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), Dr Andy Osei Okrah, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to protecting and promoting Ghana’s shea sector as the country prepares to host the 2025 World Shea Expo.

Dr Okrah paid a courtesy call on the King of Dagbon, His Royal Majesty N-Dan Ya-Na Abukari II, in the Northern Region, where the two leaders discussed strategic measures to strengthen the shea industry.

The TCDA boss emphasised the need for community education and bushfire prevention to safeguard shea trees, which are vital for livelihoods in northern Ghana. In response, the King pledged to convene a durbar of chiefs and communities to mobilise grassroots support for protecting shea resources.

“The King’s commitment to this cause is truly encouraging,” Dr Okrah noted, adding that the Authority is confident the partnership will yield long-term benefits for farmers and processors.

Dr Okrah also met with the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Sugri Muniry, to align local government efforts with TCDA’s broader vision for the shea sector.

With preparations for the World Shea Expo underway, TCDA’s collaboration with traditional authorities and government agencies signals a renewed push to unlock the economic potential of the shea industry while empowering rural communities across northern Ghana.
