Fuel prices are expected to rise sharply from Tuesday, September 16, 2025, as the second pricing window of the month opens, according to projections by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC).
Petrol prices are set to increase by 3.98%, diesel by 9.41%, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by 7.65%.
This means petrol, which currently sells at an average of GHS13.09 per litre, will rise to about GHS13.61 per litre. Diesel will climb from GHS13.32 to GHS14.08 per litre, while LPG is projected to move from GHS11.63 to GHS12.52 per kilogram.
COPEC attributed the sharp increases largely to the depreciation of the Ghana cedi, which fell by 8.62% against the US dollar within the current pricing window — from GHS11.03 to GHS12.07 per dollar.
The chamber noted that this currency weakness wiped out the marginal relief consumers might have enjoyed from a 0.52% decline in global crude oil prices, which fell from $67.67 to $67.32 per barrel.
In a statement issued on September 15, COPEC’s Executive Secretary, Duncan Amoah, urged Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to absorb some of the increases by adjusting their margins to avoid overburdening consumers.
“It is the expectation of COPEC that the various OMCs try to absorb some portions of these upward adjustments by shelving some of their margins in order not to overburden the consumer with these expected steep pricing adjustments,” Mr. Amoah said.
