Ghanaians in China urged to build effective networks to drive investment to Ghana

Ghana’s Deputy Ambassador to China, Dr Charles Dwamena, has called on Ghanaians in China to build and utilize their Chinese ‘Guangxi’ to drive home investment to support the development of the country.

Dr Dwamena, made the call when he inaugurated the Ghanaian Community in the Lanzhou City of the Gansu Province of China. According to him, the Chinese ‘Guangxi’ is an effective social networking and business system in the Chinese culture that makes it possible for friends of friends to become good friends thus making it possible for new acquaintances to benefiyt from opportunities. He, therefore, encouraged members of the Ghanaian Community in China to utilize their Guangxi to drive home investment to support Government’s 1D1F program. He, however, cautioned that, for the Guangxi to be effective, there is the need for one to be honest, transparent and hardworking as these are essential in building effective relationships.

He informed the gathering that H.E. President Akufo Addo places a lot of importance on the contributions of Ghanaians in the Diaspora and has therefore set up a well-resourced Diaspora Affairs Bureau at the Presidency to coordinate activities of Ghanaians in the Diaspora. He encouraged students undertaking researches to choose topics that are capable of solving identified challenges in Ghana so that their hard work could be immediately put to use in making Ghana a better place. This, according to him, will also be beneficial to such students as they could then be easily engaged as experts in the resolution of such challenges.

The Envoy also tasked the leadership of the Ghanaian Community to explore ways of buying group insurance for members so as to safeguard the welfare of members.

Mr Sylvester Achereko, the Minister-Counsellor in charge of the Consular Section who accompanied the Deputy Ambassador advised students to stay away from illegal employment and cautioned members against giving out their bank account details to others to receive money transfers. According to him, this is one of the current tricks’ money launderers are employing and a number of innocent people have fallen victim to them. He further advised members to learn to cope with the system instead of challenging it.

The occasion was also used to swear-in the newly elected officers of the Ghanaian Community- Lanzhou Chapter.
