Ghana’s Kwame Tenadu elected Vice President & First African of International Federation of Surveyors

The President of the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana, LiSAG,  Kwame Tenadu Senior has been elected as the Vice President of the International Federation of Surveyors FIG at the just ended e-Working Week and 44th General Assembly 2021.

He scored a landslide victory in the elections, emerging with 60 votes against his Nigerian contender.

According to Mr. Rudolf Staiger, the FIG president, “Mr. Kwame Tenadu is the first African Vice President to be elected into the Council of the International Federation of Surveyors –FIG in 143 years.”

The out-going Vice President Mr. Orhan Ecan, in his closing remarks congratulated his successor Kwame Tenadu and expressed confidence in him to be equal to the task.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Tenadu indicated that he was humbled, honored and elated for his new international position.

He said, “I know that we can achieve all goals we set for ourselves and improve the functioning of this Federation. A Federation that looks more international and more inclusive than ever. This is the beauty of a multilateral Federation.’’

Kwame Tenadu Senior

Mr. Kwame Tenadu Snr. is a Fellow of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) and the President of the Licensed Surveyors Association of Ghana (LiSAG).

He has over forty (40) years private sector practice as a Surveyor, and in Land Administration. He has served FIG in various capacities and is the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the FIG Working Week Ghana 2024.

He made history, by giving Africa a seat on the FIG Council in 143 years of its establishment. He thanked all who voted for him and inspired him to stand for the elections as he pledged to work with other elected officials as a team to advance issues of importance to FIG, its stakeholders and communities.

FIG is a federation that has established a week-long event organized yearly since 1878 when it was established, to give surveyors and geospatial experts around the world a platform to meet, greet, network, learn, have fun and to be inspired during this annual affair.

This year’s Conference was held under the theme, “Smart Surveyors for Land and Water Management – Challenges in a New Reality.” in the Netherlands.
