The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging that GH¢200 million belonging to the institution had been stolen by Dominic Bonsu Ventures.
In a statement issued on Monday, GoldBod described the publication as malicious and deliberately intended to mislead the public and undermine confidence in the operations of the Board.
The statement also rejected claims that the proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures, Mr. Dominic Bonsu, was a former bodyguard or personal security officer to the Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi.
According to GoldBod, Mr. Bonsu has never served in that capacity, adding that the claim is completely false.
The Board further clarified that it has not lost or advanced GH¢200 million, or any amount of money, to Mr. Bonsu or Dominic Bonsu Ventures.
GoldBod explained that Dominic Bonsu Ventures had its licence suspended for allegedly breaching the terms and conditions of its licence and the GoldBod Trading Directives, in line with the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
It said following investigations and enforcement action, Mr. Dominic Bonsu was arrested and remanded into lawful custody by the High Court in Accra, where he remains as legal proceedings continue.
The Board expressed concern over what it described as the deliberate spread of false information aimed at distorting an ongoing enforcement action and misleading the public.
GoldBod urged the public to disregard the fabricated claims and rely only on information published through its official communication channels.
It also called on media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publication and uphold the highest standards of responsible journalism.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the laws governing Ghana’s gold trading sector fairly, professionally and without fear or favour.
