The IPPs and ECG through the government have agreed on a road map for the payment of their arrears. Information GBCNews gathers indicates that the government has paid about 30 percent of the debt.

This will avert the threat by the IPPs to shut down their thermal plants from tomorrow July 1, 2023.

Earlier, the Minority Caucus in Parliament pleaded with the Independent Power Producers, IPPs to give the government some time to address their concerns with the payment of their arrears.

Speaking to the media, the Ranking Member on the Mines and Energy Committee in Parliament, Mr John Jinapor says the nation is on the brink of experiencing serious power outage if the IPPs shut down operations.
