Government has struck an optimistic tone ahead of 2026, expressing confidence in improved economic performance while thanking Ghanaians for their resilience and support throughout a challenging recovery period.

In a statement issued on December 31, 2025, government declared that 2026 will be a stronger year, urging citizens to look ahead with renewed hope as efforts to stabilise the economy begin to yield results. The message follows the early settlement of a US$709 million Eurobond obligation on December 30, 2025, which the Ministry of Finance described as a major milestone in Ghana’s economic recovery and debt-management strategy.

The latest payment brings total Eurobond repayments made in 2025 to about US$1.4 billion under the country’s debt restructuring memorandum. This amount comprises two earlier payments of US$349.52 million each, in addition to the US$709 million settled ahead of schedule.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the timely settlement reinforces Ghana’s credibility as a sovereign borrower and demonstrates government’s renewed commitment to transparent, predictable and disciplined debt-service practices. The Ministry noted that this step is critical to rebuilding investor confidence after years of debt distress.

Ghana was forced into a comprehensive restructuring of its external debt following a sharp deterioration in public finances, driven by rising debt levels, escalating interest costs and global economic shocks. Since then, government has prioritised meeting its restructured debt obligations as part of a broader macroeconomic stabilisation and recovery programme.

Building on the latest Eurobond repayment, the Ministry of Finance said government will intensify reforms in domestic revenue mobilisation, public financial management and public debt management. These measures are aimed at strengthening fiscal buffers to support future debt-service obligations while sustainably financing the country’s development agenda.

Government also appealed to Ghanaians for continued forbearance and cooperation as additional economic reforms are rolled out in 2026 to consolidate the gains achieved in 2025.

In expressing gratitude to citizens, government acknowledged the role of public support and understanding in the recovery process and reaffirmed its optimism for the year ahead, stating that 2026 is expected to be a stronger year for Ghana’s economy.
