A Petrochemical Engineer, Dr. Yussif Sulemana, has reiterated the need for government to retool the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to become fully operational.

He said the huge amount of money Ghana spends in importing finished crude products will reduce if the country’s crude oil is refined locally.

He said when this is done it will also shore up the strength of the local currency, the cedi.

Speaking in an interview with the media in Accra, Dr. Sulemana said it is in the best interest of the nation to get the refinery back to business to create jobs.

Meanwhile, the Energy Minister Nominee, Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh has promised to look for the right partnership when approved as Minister to bring back TOR to life. On the indebtedness and inefficiencies of TOR, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh said he will ensure that, the sector has adequate support and partnership to equip the refinery to operate fully.
