Ghana Private Road Transport Union, (GPRTU) has raised concerns about the poor performance of the Cedi against the Dollar being the reason for the increase in fuel prices, therefore calls on government to do well to address the issue.

The Union believes that, the Cedi –Dollar relationship has not been the best for some time now which is the reason for the constant increase in fuel prices, therefore if managers of the economy will do well to arrest the depreciating of the Cedi to the Dollar, fuel prices will come down as expected and affordable to all.

The National Vice Chairman of GPRTU, Robert Sabbah in a telephone interview on GBC’s ‘Uniiq FM Breakfast show’, revealed that, it is possible for fuel prices to go up again if government is not able to manage the cedi against the dollar as expected.

“its performance against the Dollar is what is worrying” he stated

He explained that, the GPRTU has a method of calculating the prices of transport fares and the Cedi-Dollar relationship is one of them, therefore that is what they will apply to determine whether the review will be appropriate upwards or downwards.

He added that, the GPRTU is working things out with the government and will come out with a release as to whether there will be an increase in fuel prices.
