The Enforcement and Compliance Unit of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), yesterday locked up the premises of Hippo General and Haulage Transportation Limited at Tema for about 1.3 billion cedis tax default.
Interacting with Journalists after the exercise, a Principal Revenue Officer with the Unit, Magnus Boateng said numerous meetings with management of the company to work on a payment plan proved futile.
Workers of a subsidiary company of Hippo who were occupying the premises at the time of the distress action were asked to leave and the facility barricaded.
The team also visited Sentuos Steel Company where management issued a cheque for 9.2 million cedis to clear their debt.
Mr. Boateng urged individuals, business owners and organizations to visit GRA offices to pay their tax as part of their civic responsibility.
