The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) has called for calm in a bid to find solutions to the impasse between the Nigerian Authorities and the Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) over the closure of the ‘SEME’ border since August this year.
Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana in Accra, the General Secretary of the ICU, Solomon Kotei acknowledged the difficulties that the border closure is having on Ghanaian traders in general and GUTA members in particular, as well as its accompanying job losses, but indicated that due process must be followed to resolve the impasse in order not to throw the ECOWAS protocols on free movement of goods and persons, in jeopardy.
Mr. Solomon Kotei said the Union is aware that Ghanaian company Kasapreko is losing about 2million cedis out of the border closure and a whole lot of employers may be suffering because of the closure but diplomacy and dialogue for now, remains the only way out of the problem.
