Klo-Agogo Market traders call on gov’t for support

By Michael Kofi Kenetey

Traders at Klo-Agogo Market in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region have voiced their displeasure about the bad state of the market over the past years which is affecting their businesses.

According to the traders, due to the deplorable nature of the market, customers find it difficult to access the market to patronize their goods, especially whenever there is a downpour. The situation, they say is really having a negative impact on the socio-economic activities of the area.

The Klo-Agogo Market is one of the biggest markets in the Yilo Krobo Municipality and one of the well-patronized market centres in the country as several people across the country come there every Tuesday and Friday to do business.

All kinds of foodstuffs from the surrounding villages are brought to the market in large quantities to help meet the food demands of the urban areas and also helps in revenue generation for the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly.

However, despite all the significant revenue generation from the market to the Assembly for the past years, the Assembly has refused to give the market any facelift.

In an interview with the media, the traders made a passionate appeal to the government, through the MCE, Eric Tetteh and the MP for Yilo Krobo Constituency, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey to intervene and address the situation.

In an interview with GBC Sunrise FM, the Assembly Member of Klo-Agogo Electoral Area, Harold Kofi Kumah, described the situation as disheartening, adding that he has reported it to the assembly numerous times but his effort has yielded no result.

Mr. Kumah noted that the absence of police post in the area is also affecting the safety of traders in the market and the entire area and further appealed to the government to come to their aid.
