The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako Atta, says long term partnership between local firms and Japanese companies will boost transfer of technology and increase capacity in local delivery.

He said Public Private Partnership is strategic in harnessing the skills and finances of the private sector, to close the gap in road projects.

He said this when he was speaking at the 2nd High-Quality Infrastructure Conference in Accra. The meeting discussed ways of enhancing infrastructure development through Public Private Partnerships.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako Atta also said the capacity of the local construction industry is low and there is the need to embrace the high quality infrastructure concept from Japan to address Ghana’s infrastructure deficit. He said Ghana’s medium term goal is to build a resilient infrastructure which is cost effective while safeguarding the environment.

He therefore called for the implementation of policies on standards to promote best practices.

The Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea said the more than two million Housing deficit require urgent measures to tackle it.

The Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Takashi Otsuka said representatives of more than 20 companies from Japan are exploring investment opportunities in the country.
