The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Commission, Edudzi Tamakloe, says President John Dramani Mahama has directed the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to absorb GH¢2 per litre of diesel to cushion consumers against recent fuel price increases.
Mr. Tamakloe disclosed the directive in a Facebook post on Monday, August 3, 2026, describing the intervention as a measure to reduce the burden of rising fuel costs on Ghanaians, particularly commercial transport operators and businesses that depend heavily on diesel.
He said the President has instructed the NPA to take the necessary steps to implement the policy to ease the impact of increasing diesel prices.
According to Mr. Tamakloe, the directive demonstrates President Mahama’s commitment to supporting ordinary Ghanaians in the face of rising living costs.
The National Petroleum Authority is expected to outline the implementation arrangements for the intervention.
