More than 200,000 Cocoa Farmers across ten districts of the country have been given modern training in good agricultural practices and effective sustainable methods to limit the industry’s contribution to climate change.

This was contained in the 2017-2018 Cargill Sustainable Report. The report further disclosed that the Company is helping to curtail child labour by working with International Cocoa Initiative to implement its Child Labour Mentoring and Remediation System.

This involves close collaboration with community leaders and trusted representatives in helping households to address the root causes that lead them to put children to work on farms instead of schools to break the cycle of poverty.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana on the sidelines of the report presentation, the Sustainability Country Lead for Cargill Ghana, Samuel Apana, said it is aimed at ensuring that cocoa farmers produce sustainably while taking care of the well-being of the farmers and the environment.

The HR Lead of Cargill Cocoa and Chocolate Africa, Francis Yohunu, said improving the livelihoods of the farmers remain paramount in ensuring a sustainable supply chain.
