President Akufo-Addo charges MTN to address critical concerns of customers


President Akufo-Addo has urged telecommunications giant, MTN, to take steps to address the critical concerns of its subscribers.

He said issues of affordability, availability, quality, reliability and speed of the service must be addressed.

Speaking at a ceremony to officially launch the company’s 25th-anniversary celebration, President Akufo-Addo said Government is employing the application of digital technology to stimulate the growth and transformation of the Ghanaian economy, and, thereby, help ensure that every Ghanaian derives maximum benefit from this process.

MTN is the leading telecommunication network in Ghana with over 25 million subscribers. The company entered the Ghanaian market in 1994 but started operations in 1996.

Since then, the company has transformed from its initial third position to become the leading and number one tax-paying company in Ghana. Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Selorm Adadevoh, praised the government for its business-friendly policies.

Minister of Communications and Digitization, Ursula Owusu Ekuful, said Ghana is poised to become the digital hub in West Africa.

President Akufo-Addo said rapid digital transformation is reshaping economies and improving lives across the world as it presents huge opportunities for efficiency, innovation, job creation, enhanced revenue generation and overall economic growth.

He said Ghana, should not be left out of the evolution and that government through the Ministry of Communication and Digitisation has embarked on an ambitious programme to transform Ghana’s economy through the application of digital technologies.

President Akufo-Addo commended MTN for being a responsible corporate citizen through the prompt payment of taxes. He however asked the company to address the service delivery concerns and other complaints from its customers.

Past CEOs of MTN were recognized. Past and present staff, as well as customers and suppliers, were also honoured.
