PURC resolves more than 1,500 complaints by consumers in 2023

The Bono Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission {PURC} in 2023 successfully solved 1,552 complaints out of 1,565 lodged against the Northern Electricity Distribution Company {NEDCo} and Ghana Water Company Limited {GWCL} from the Bono, Bono East and the Ahafo Regions.

The Complaints ranged from Unlawful Disconnection, billing, quality of service, damaged property, payments, and metering among others were resolved amicably by the PURC. The Bono Regional Manager of the PURC, Patrick Antwi made this known at the end-of-year dinner organized by the PURC in Sunyani.

The event which was attended by officials of PURC, NEDCo, GWCL, media personalities and some utility consumers, was to take stock of the year’s activities with the view of improving service delivery and enhancing the relationship between consumers and service providers.

According to the Bono Regional Manager of PURC Patrick Antwi who also oversees the Bono East and the Ahafo regions, there were 1,565 complaints lodged against the Utilities with NEDCo leading with 1,149 from its consumers followed by GWCL with 181 complaints. He said, ”every year the complaints lodged in the PURC office increase with the quality of service leading that chart”.

On recoveries, Patrick Antwi said, 10,733,499.54 Ghana Cedis was recovered for the utilities while 85,478.75 Ghana Cedis was recovered for consumers from January to December 2023.

The Bono Regional Manager of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission {PURC} called on the public not to hesitate to make complaints to the PURC for prompt and amicable settlement, adding they are there for the public and utility providers alike.

He said PURC looks forward to 2024 as a year of strategic impact to consolidate gains made in 2023.
