Two Ghanaian oil and gas professionals bag awards at SPE Regional Awards in Lagos

Two members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers-Ghana Section (SPE Ghana Section) have been awarded for their meritorious contributions to the Oil and Gas industry in Ghana and on the African continent at an impressive Ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria on the last day of the Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE) for the year 2022.
 The team from Ghana grabbed 2 out of 14 awards in the Africa Region.
A Commercial Manager at the Ghana National Gas Company, Dr. Riverson Oppong won the 2022 SPE Regional Service Award and the current SPE Ghana Section Young Professionals Chairman, James Allotey-Okai also won the SPE Regional Young Professional Member Outstanding Service Award.
Dr. Riverson Oppong has in the past received several regional and international awards including the Millennium Excellence award and the 2020 SPE Regional Young Professional Member Outstanding Service Award among others.
Two Ghanaian oil and gas professionals bag awards at SPE Regional Awards in LagosAside serving as the SPE Ghana Section Programs Chairman, Dr. Oppong is the incoming SPE Ghana Section Chairman and has contributed in diverse roles to the growth of SPE in Ghana and abroad as part of his over 13-year membership of the organisation.
He has also presented and published several technical papers in various forums and journals.
James Allotey-Okai, was awarded the 2022 SPE Regional Young Professional Member Outstanding Service Award.
The Regional Young Professional Member Outstanding Service Award recognizes contributions and leadership to the public, the community, the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the petroleum engineering profession within the region.
Aside serving as the SPE Ghana Section YP Chairman, Mr. Allotey-Okai has also contributed in diverse roles to the growth of SPE in Ghana and overseas as part of his over 10-year membership of the organisation.
He is an avid mentor to students and regularly gives guest lectures to the various student’s chapters around the country.
He is also a past recipient of several awards at the student’s chapter level.
He has also served on various committees both at the regional and international level in furtherance of the mission of the organisation.
The SPE Regional awards recognize members who contribute exceptional service and leadership within SPE, as well as making significant professional contributions within their technical disciplines at the regional level.
The SPE Regional Service Award acknowledges exceptional contributions to the Society of Petroleum Engineers at the section and regional level and recognizes singular devotion of time and effort to the programs and development of the member’s section and region that sets it apart from the services rendered each year by many members of the Society.
The Society of Petroleum Engineers is the biggest body of professionals in the upstream segment of the Oil and Gas industry with more than 124,000 members in 135 countries.
