World Bank to support Ghana to procure more covid-19 vaccines

Ghana has signed a $200 million loan agreement with the World Bank to support the country to procure more COVID-19 vaccines.

The facility, which is second additional financing for the COVID-19 Emergency Preparedness Response Project, is expected to help Ghana to vaccinate about 13 million people whiles strengthening Ghana’s health systems to better respond to future health crisis.

About 137 million of the amount is to be used for the procurement of vaccines whiles the rest will be used to aid health care services.

Speaking at a signing ceremony in Accra, Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta who initialed for Ghana, stressed government’s resolve to ensure that no one is left behind.

Country Director of the World Bank, Pierre Laporte, said the facility is expected to complement government’s efforts in achieving herd immunity.
