Mobile phones in its first appearance were used mainly for making and receiving calls. And that was a great innovation.

Users could just carry a small piece device around anywhere and make calls to anyone only if one is within the telephone service range.

Then, the main reason for purchasing a phone would have been just for calls only and maybe for a little curiosity.

One would not have to pay a lot of money for a phone unlike today.

With time, the features on a phone increased and people could do more with their phones. Mobile phones now support a lot of features like emails, Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), internet access, playing games, taking photos and videos.

Overtime, the features of the phone advanced, it functions became more and comparatively some phones can perform some of the functions of a computer. The simple phone metamorphosed into what we refer to as a ‘smartphone.’

Smartphone is now the hype name for a mobile or cell phone. It is used for playing games, saying hi to friends on social media, taking pictures — “selfie”, watching videos online and while the rate of making calls is dwindling.

The problem arises;

• When one doesn’t know the kind of phone to buy
• Which brand to follow
• The amount of money one should ‘invest’ when purchasing today’s smartphone.

As smartphones emerged and demand for them increased, companies like Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Nokia, Motorola just to mention a few, went into developing good and high standard phones. Mass production became the order of the day and every new phone designed, came with its own unique name and style.

With the increase in electronic components, they provide us with more innovative ways to use smartphones.

At techtip on GBCGHANAONLINE, we say consider these tips when buying a new shiny smartphone.

• Know the purpose you want to use the phone for.
Is it just for making call, sending SMS, for surfing the internet, for taking pictures?
This can help one to decide whether to go in for a little cheaper phone with good battery power rather than throwing a lot of money on a phone you will not probably need all the services it provides.

• Know the storage capacity of the smartphone you want

• If you want to take good pictures then go for the one with a good megapixel. And not necessary chasing the new phone in town.

Buying the latest phone in town is not wise but it is, when you feel satisfied with it. Remember there will also be a price drop with the increase in electronic component. Another latest one will pop out making a price reduction in the previous one.
