A Former Director-General of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR, Dr. Abdulai Salifu, has blamed the non-patronage of local rice, to a cartel operating in the importation business.

He said the council has come out with many improved rice varieties, but the commercial interest of the cartel, is the problem.

Dr. Salifu who spoke to GBC’s Joyce Gyekye as part of the Council’s 60th Anniversary celebration, said the government can introduce a quota system as a gradual process to promote local rice consumption.
