CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe has defended the confederation’s controversial decision to award Morocco a 3-0 victory in the Total Energies CAF Morocco 2025 final, overturning Senegal’s on-field triumph.
The ruling, officially announced on March 17, 2026, has ignited fierce debate across Africa’s football landscape, with fans and analysts questioning the integrity of the process.
Motsepe addressed the uproar head-on, stressing that CAF views the incident with utmost gravity. “We take what has happened at the final match in Morocco during the AFCON very very seriously,” he stated.
He staunchly backed the credibility of CAF’s judicial bodies, insisting the verdict upholds the organization’s core principles.
Motsepe emphasized high standards, noting, “It is important for us that ordinary football supporters… in every one of the 54 countries in Africa regard the decisions of our judicial bodies as fair, with integrity and impartiality.”
The focus now shifts to Senegal’s impending appeal, which could dramatically alter the outcome and restore their title.
