The Community Development Alliance, (CDA) and the Civil Society Coalition for Climate Justice, (CSCCJ), have called for immediate prosecution of those involved in illegal logging, especially rosewood.

The Executive Director of CDA, Salifu Issifu Kanton who made the call at a news conference in Wa also asked the Attorney General and the Ministry of the Interior to perform what he termed “their sacred duties” by ensuring that crimes against our environment are punished to serve as deterrent.

The news conference was held on the heels of reports of the arrest of a 41-year-old Chinese woman, Helena Huang with four containers of rosewood she was transporting to an unknown destination.

Currently, there is ban on salvaging, transportation and exporting of rosewood in Ghana.

Mr. Kanton entreated the powers that be not to bow to pressures from the mafia group associated with the illegal rosewood enterprise to lift the ban.
