The Police in the Northern region have denied reports that students of the Chereponi Senior High School will be evacuated following renewed clashes in the area.

There were reports that the evacuation of Kokumba students has become necessary over fears of reprisal attacks since the school is situated in an area mostly occupied by Anufuls.

Addressing the media in Tamale, PRO for the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Yussif Tanko said the regional Security Council has advised against such a move.

He added that the regional police command has received reinforcement in order to provide adequate security to students and ensure the smooth operation of the school.

DSP Tanko said the number of communities burnt as a result of the clashes in the area has risen to 22. He called on community leaders to step in and ensure that peace prevails in the area.
