The Chiefs and people of Karni have expressed their appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for realigning the area, by taking it from the Lambussie District back to Jirapa Municipality.

Chairman of the Karni Area Youth and Development Association (KAYDA), Aggrey Faabar said or some years now the Area Council has been calling for the unconstitutional  and arbitrary division of the Karni Area Council and the traditional area between Jirapa Municipality and Lambussie Karni District to be reviewed.

Mr. Faabar stated that the demarcation of the Karni retarded the development of the area as a result of the distance, language barrier and disunity among the people of Karni and the communities surrounding it.

He praised the President, Ministry of Local Government and Electoral Commission for the move to realign the area back to the Jirapa Municipal.

Mr. Faabar  expressed the sentiments when he addressed the chiefs and people of Karni on the realignment of the Karni Area Council to the Jirapa Municipality.

The Lambussie Karni is the eleventh district in the Upper West Region.

The district was created from Jirapa Lambussie District by Legislative Instrument (LI) 1849 in 2007.

The Karni Area Council and Traditional Area was carved from Jirapa District to form part of the Lambussie a district in 2008.

The Karni Area Council is made up of seven electoral areas. Following the demarcation, the chiefs and people of the area have been calling on government to reverse the decision.

They complained of language barrier, disunity of the people, district capital being far away from Karni among other factors.

Mr. Faabar believe that with the overall vision for development and maintenance of peace, the proactive realignment is setting a stage for a holistic development of the Karni area and observed that their persistent agitation for justice has yielded results.

He called on all well-meaning leaders especially the political class to support the initiative by the government to accelerate development.

The chief of the area, Naa Charles Samba, expressed his happiness about the realignment of the area as part of Jirapa Municipality.

The Assembly Member for Ving-ving Electoral Area, Ayemah Ebenezer, said they are grateful to government for its bold decision to respond to the cry of the people of Karni.

He said the alignment of the area as part of Lambussie district, posed many challenges to the Karni traditional area with some communities not participating in some communal activities because they felt alienated.

He pointed out that final year students also find it difficult to go to the District capital,  Lambussie to write their examinations because of the distance.
