A Governance Expert, Prof. Baffour Agyeman- Duah says President Akufo-Addo must demonstrate more commitment to the fight against corruption.

According to him, the President must be firm to relieve alleged corrupt officials of their posts.

Prof. Agyemang- Duah was reacting to comments by President Akufo-Addo, that he is not shielding perceived corrupt officials in his government.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the President’s claim of having fought corruption, and not shielding perceived corrupt government officials is not accurate.

Speaking on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’, Deputy Minister of Communications in the previous government, Felix Kwakye Fosu, said President Akufo-Addo, needs to do more to stamp out corruption in his government.

In a sharp rebuttal, Government spokesperson on Finance and MP for Bantama-North, Daniel Okyem Aboagye, said President Akufo-Addo has done more in fighting corruption in his government, than the NDC did while in power. He said the NDC did worse, while in government.

President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo says it is not in his place to convict or clear any person accused of wrongdoing, or of engaging in acts of corruption.

Addressing the 2019 Conference of the Ghana Bar Association in Takoradi, Western Region, on Monday September 9, President Akufo-Addo said it is not his job to clear or convict accused persons.

However, it is his job to act on allegations of corruption by referring the issues to the designated investigative authorities for the relevant enquiries and necessary action.
