CJ declares November 19 to 23 ADR week

The Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo has declared November 19 to 23, 2018, Alternative Dispute Resolution, (ADR) week.

ADR has been adopted by the Judicial Service as part of its adjudication process and has been dubbed “court-connected ADR”.

The aim of the program is to ensure that access to justice is made easier, cheaper and flexible to all, especially the poor and vulnerable.

The Chief Justice has instituted an ADR week in every legal year term.

This is to give parties the opportunity to settle their cases through mediation and to also run programs and activities to create awareness on the availability of ADR as a compliment to the adjudication process in the courts.

The theme for the week is” application of ADR by the courts: a shared responsibility for quality justice.

The focus of the week is to reduce the backlog of cases at the participating courts by 20 percent.
