Coronavirus cases surge to 18,630 in Ghana

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed a further 496 new coronavirus infections in the country as the pandemic sweeps across the globe.

“This brings the total number of covid-19 positive cases in Ghana to 18,630 with total recoveries of 14,046 since the last update. The number of reported deaths is 117 accounting for 0.63 per cent of the positives with active cases of 4,467.”

The Director-General of the GHS, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye said this on Thursday, July 2, at the covid-19 press briefing in Accra.

He disclosed, “these people are being managed at the treatment sites, isolations and under home management depending of the situation.”

According to him, Ghana currently has 22 cases who are in severe conditions, 8 are critical with 6 on ventilators.

He said the 496 new cases were reported from 50 districts from 10 regions.

The Greater Accra, Ashanti and Western regions remain the three major hotspot regions of COVID-19 cases in Ghana.

Count of New Cases per Region

Greater Accra – 209 cases from 18 districts.

Ashanti- 158 cases from 11 districts.

Bono East-35 cases from 4 districts.

Eastern- 27 cases from 5 districts.

Ahafo- 18 cases from 1 district.

Western- 17 cases from 1 district.

Upper West-14 cases from 5 districts.

Central- 10 cases from 2 districts.

Volta- 2 cases from 2 districts.

Western North- 3  new from 1 district.

Upper East, Northern, North East, Oti Bono and Savannah did not report any positive cases.
