An Accra High Court has ordered for a mental examination on Daniel Asiedu alias sexy dondon the first accused person in the ongoing murder trial of the former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, JB Danquah-Adu.
This follows an application made by lawyer for Daniel Asiedu, Augustine Obuor, who told the court that he believes his client may be suffering from some form of mental ailment.
His lawyer Augustine Obour said his suspicion is based on some comments and behaviors the accused has been exhibiting since the beginning of the trial.
He further argued that the continues plea by the accused for an ICC lawyer when he has been consistently told would not be possible is not normal.
The lawyer also narrated one incident when his client called him directing him to be in charge of the serving of food at his coronation as a Chief in Akuapem.
Prosecution however, opposed the application arguing that the accused person has not shown any signs of a mental disorder.
The court presided over by Justice George Boadi said the decision to get him medically examined is based on the need for a fair trial.
Justice Buadi, therefore asked the court registry to as a matter of urgency write to the Medical Officer of the Accra psychiatric hospital to begin the process immediately.
He also ordered the prisons service to also make the accused available upon request by the hospital.
Justice Boadi said the report must be ready for adoption by the 27th of next month for trial to continue on June 3.
