The Kaneshie District Court has remanded into BNI custody, ACP Benjamin Agordzor who was arrested for allegedly assisting in a coup plot.

The move is to allow the trial judge Eleanor Botwe to study the arguments of the defense and prosecution and come out with a ruling on Friday, November 8.

Lawyer for the Police Officer, Hadyya Muhammed told the court that the state prosecution has brought the officer to the court only to delay the matter, knowing very well that the court does not have the jurisdiction to handle the matter because it cannot grant bail. But prosecution, led by ASP Sylvester Asare disagreed and explained that the accused person is a Senior Officer and they have no intension of abusing his rights.

He further argued that the issue of jurisdiction raised by the defense is of no substance and should not be entertained by the court.

He said the issue about bail is premature and the defense is aware that during committal processes one is allowed to apply for bail at the High Court.

So their argument about the jurisdiction of the court is baseless. The State had brought ACP Agbodzor to court on a charge of abetment of treason and seeking remand for investigations to continue, but the charge was not officially read before the court, because lawyer for the officer challenged the jurisdiction of the court.

ACP Agbodzor is alleged to have assisted the leader of the coup plotters, Dr. Freddrick Mac-Palm through messages he sent on Whatsapp, urging them to seek police permit before they embark on a planned demonstration.

ACP Agbodzor who was in uniform and spoke after recess, said nobody can intimidate him because he sees nothing wrong in what he did.
