COVID-19: Accra Technical University donates to Accra Psychiatric hospital, others

Accra Technical University, ATU, has joined other institutions to help mitigate the spread of Covid 19 by distributing sanitizers and fabricated Veronica Buckets to some institutions in Accra.

As part of measures to support the Government in curbing the spread of Covid-19, Accra Technical University has donated fifty pieces each of hand sanitisers and fabricated Veronica Buckets to the Accra Psychiatric hospital, the Blind Union and the Senior Correctional Centre in Accra.

The Sanitizers were manufactured by the Medical and Science Laboratory Technology Department of the College.

Briefing journalists in Accra, Head of Department of the Medical Laboratory Technology, Dr. Henry Hackman said he has noted with concern the sudden increase of prices of hand sanitisers and saw it necessary to give back to society by distributing them to the selected institutions.

He said most sanitisers sold on the market are not up to standard.

The University first visited the Accra Psychiatric hospital and presented fifty pieces of sanitizers and two fabricated Veronica buckets made by the University to the hospital.

Presenting the items, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Edmund Ameko, urged Ghanaians to respect the President’s directives. This according to him will help to contain the virus.

Receiving the items, the Principal Officer of the hospital, Agnes Agudu was grateful to the University for the gesture. She appealed for more of the items from other stakeholders.

At the Ghana Blind Union, Director of Ghana Blind Union Dr. Obeng Asamoah said social distancing will not be possible since the visually impared often help each other through touch.

At the Senior Correctional Centre, Head Of Department of the medical laboratory, Accra Technical University, Dr Henry Hackman said the hand sanitizers produced by ATU has been approved by the FDA.

Ghana has currently recorded 136 cases of covid 19 with 3 deaths. The message still remains good personal hygiene and limited movement.
