Chinese woman accused of illegal mining Aisha Huang broke down in tears in Court after the trial judge Justice Lydia Osei Marfo again declined to admit her to bail.
Her lawyer, Captain(rtd) Nkrabea Effah Dartey made another attempt to plead for bail for her but the Court refused on grounds that she is a foreigner with no social ties within the jurisdiction.
The Court also held that the trial has begun and it is moving at a pace she is sure will end soon.
The first prosecution witness Superintendent Reuben Ransford Aborabora of the Ghana Immigration Service in his evidence in Chief told the Court how an operation carried out by his men led to the arrest of some four
Chinese nationals alleged to be employees of Aisha Huang engaging in illegal mining at Bepotenten in the Ashanti region.
The witness tendered in a pendrive that he claims contains pictures and videos he took as part of his investigations. The pendrive was accordingly admitted in evidence and played in open Court.
During cross-examination by Captain Effah Dartey, the witness admitted that he had no direct personal information or evidence against the accused for illegal mining. Superintendent Aborabora further explained that one of the four Chinese nationals arrested during the operation at Bepotenten told him that they were working for Aisha Huang and that their passports were with her.
The witness said on the day the team carried out the operation, the accused was no where near Bepotenten. Superintendent Aborabora said the first time he set eyes on Aisha Huang was when she was invited by the Head of Enforcement at the Ghana Immigration Service in Kumasi following the arrest of the four Chinese nationals.
The prosecution witness admitted that as an Immigration officer with the video recording, he has no personal independent verified information against the accused person. On that note, Captain Effah Dartey ended his cross-examination of the witness and was accordingly discharged by the court.
