The Overlord of Dagbon Yaa Naa Abubakar Mahama II has called for a detailed investigation into the killing of herdsmen at Zokole in the Yendi Municipality of the Northern Region. He said the perpetrators of the attacks should not be allowed to escape justice and tasked the Northern and Yendi Municipal Security Councils to find the killers and bring them to justice. The Overlord expressed these sentiments when the Northern Regional Minister, Shaibu Shani Alhassan called on him at the Gbewaa palace to brief him on the attack at Zokole which has left at least eight persons dead.

On Wednesday, April 13th, some gunmen attacked the Zokole Community in the Yendi Municipality and killed at least eight men in what is considered reprisal attacks.

Several others were injured and houses burnt. The development follows another attack earlier in the day in which a trader was killed at Zangban on the Yendi-Zabzugu road.

The attacks has left many including the Ya Na in shock.

The Northern Regional Minister, Shaibu Shani Alhassan led the Northern Regional Security Council to the Community to assess the situation. The team also paid a courtesy call to the Ya Na, to brief him on the development.

Ya Na Abubakari Mahama II used the occasion to express his disappointment with the Yendi Municipal Security Council and the divisional Police command for their handling of the Zakole attack, saying that he informed the Municipal Chief Executive and the Divisional Police command to go to the Community to protect lives and property, they failed to report back to him about the killings.

The Northern Regional Minister Shani Alhassan Shaibu, apologized to the Overlord on behalf of the community, families of the victims are still traumatized by the development, and no arrests have so far been made.
