The road map to peace in Dagbon is feared to hit a snag following the unyiedling positions taken by both the Abudu and the Andani Royal families over the occupation of the Mbadugu residence that is close to the temporary Gbewaa Palace in Yendi in the Northern Region.

While the Andanis claim the residence is an integral part of the palace, where some chiefs and Muslim clerics put up to perform significant roles in the performance of the funeral of a Yaa Naa, the Abudus insist the said residence played no such role .

A statement issued in Tamale on Thursday by the President of the Abudus Youth, Alhaji Mugisu Sibawey said without any equivocaton that Bolin Lana Mahamadu Abdulai is not moving an inch from where he is temporaily residing.

Adding that the demand is mischevous, preposterous and unachievable .

The statement further said the Mbadugu residence plays absolutely no role in the performance of a funeral of a Ya Naa as the Gundonaa and Yeni Limam housed in that palace during the funeral of Ya Naa Mahamadu Abdulai.

Background

Committee of Eminent Chiefs brokering peace in the Dagbon chieftaincy empasse agreed a roadmap for lasting peace in Yendi, in the Northern Region.

The Committee, after 12 years of deliberations, have concluded that the two faction in the feud- the Abudu and Andani Royal gates- should take turns to bury and hold funerals for the two Chiefs of the gates.

The Committee Chaired by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll, last Novermber, presented the Plan to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra.

As per the Roadmap, the Abudu gate would be given access to the Gbewa Palace to perform the final funeral rites of the late Ya Na Mahamadu Abdulai according to their customs and traditions.

The funeral rites which were expected to last for two weeks and commenced on December 14 and end on December 28, 2018, after which the Abudus would leave the Gbewa Palace peacefully.

Thereafter, the Andani Gate would take turn at the Gbewa Palace to perform the funeral rites of the late Ya Na Yakubu Andani from January 4 to18, 2019.
Both gates are to stay of the Gbewa Royal palace after the burials until when a new Yaa Naa is enskinned.

The arrangement was expected to pave the way for processes towards the enskinment of a new Ya Na for the Dagbon Traditional Area.
