The recent kidnappings in Ghana has generated numerous debates on various platforms particularly among security analysts.

The latest is the view shared by International Relations Expert, Dr. Vladimir Antwi-Danso, who believes the trend could be a ploy to make government unpopular.

However, Security Analyst of the African Centre for Security and Counter-Terrorism, Emmanuel Kutin disagrees with Dr. Antwi Danso. Mr. Kutin stressed that security issues are existential and therefore must be treated with all seriousness and de-politicised as much as possible.

He explained that because security breaches are a direct threat to the nation and the people, it demands a co-ordinated response from all .

He added that the politicisation of the kidnapping menace is not only dangerous but also undermines efforts of security intelligence agencies.

Mr. Kutin said although the spate of kidnappings is alarming, Ghana is not yet at a crisis point.

He called for collaboration with the security agencies to help manage the situation.

Mr. Kutin bemoaned the lack of specialised kidnapping units within the security agencies to respond to kidnappings.
